A Minimal Techno & Deep House night in Vancouver, Canada

ROOFTOP SPECIAL

leave a comment »

MFES is on hiatus for now. However we have started a new summer event series called Rooftop Special.

Rooftop Special is the brainchild of Lucas Granito, Daniel Hellmann and Kelvin Beaudette. Inspired by the sunny daytime parties at WMC, Sonar and Picnik Electronique in Montreal, our aim is to create a place this summer where you can hear music outside in our beautiful city. To complement the space we will be playing classic Chicago house and lots of modern dance music, often soulful and always fun.

Come by for a drink or stay for the afternoon. Rooftop Special will also be serving food: BBQ’d hamburgers, hot dogs (and vegetarian options) will be available. Russell Brewing will be supplying us with a variety of excellent beers, including their very popular lemon ale.

If you are ready for fun music, great people and something DIFFERENT this summer, your wait is nearly over.

Rooftop Special begins July 18th and will be recurring every 2 weeks all summer long.

Admission is only $5.

Tell your friends. Tell your neighbours.

ROOFTOP SPECIAL…coming soon to a roof near you.

WHY NOT? Saturday April 26th

a new minimal techno and deep house night in Vancouver, BC! This is a private location. We’ll have a bar, lounge area, and a nice airy dancefloor with good sound. We just want to have a fun time with some like-minded individuals tapping our feet and shakin our rumps. “WHY NOT?” It’s all you need to tell your friends.

870 E. CORDOVA (Strathcona)

Doors: 10pm ~ cover is 12$ (15$ after midnight)
DAFLUKE
Producer & co-founder of the Complot label with partner Mossa, Dafluke (Lucas Granito) has been keeping busy with his own productions, in addition to DJ and live gigs. Originally from Montreal, Lucas moved to California in ‘05 where he played gigs in L.A. and San Francisco. He now resides in beautiful Vancouver, BC. Extracting from hip-hop, minimal techno and deep house, Dafluke has created a sound essentially unique and endearing, but also bizarre and captivating. His tracks have been played and charted by a variety of DJs such as Josh Wink, Mike Shannon, Mossa, Frankie, Laurent Garnier, Pheek, Someone Else, Prinz, and others. If you can’t catch his performance at Mutek ‘08 in Montreal this May, you will find Dafluke playing parties in Vancouver throughout the summer.
DERRICK BAUMAN
Derrick was born in Ontario where he narrowly escaped a life of farming and classic rock. Lured out to the West Coast by snowboarding, he quickly succumbed to the influences of the ancient forests and mountainous landscapes. Always a fan of the dark, his first electronic love was drum & bass but this inclination was transformed after being exposed to the underground techno scene. Derrick’s recent discovery of ableton has added yet another dimension to his mixing of driving, techy, loopy, bouncing sci-fi induced insanity for your aural consumption.
DAN HELLMANN
Daniel is a latecomer to electronic music. Growing up on everything from rock to hip-hop, it was only in 2002 while living in England that he first discovered house music. Since then, he has had a non-stop obsession with the genre. For the last year, Dan hosted The Annex Sessions with Derrick Bauman in a Gastown cafe. His current influences range from the minimal side of techno (Mobilee, Cadenza) to the deep, sophisticated side of house (Innervisions, Oslo). Dan also really likes cheeseburgers.
CLAIRE
Lush pads and synths fused with futuristic minimal bleeps and rumbling techno bass, a tinge of deep house soul and an incredibly funky rhythm: this is the sound that moves her. Never one to play by the rules, Claire blends minimal with deep house, acid, electro, and breakbeats, resulting in a seamless mind f*ck of spiritual yet driving music. Claire’s enigmatic presence has been captivating audiences with gigs across the continent at events like the Evolve Festival, Halifax Film Festival, Tonic NYC, The Phoenix Landing in Boston, System Soundbar in Toronto, Sonar & Lotus Long Weekend in Vancouver, and Hush in Victoria.
